The Test

The pen shook almost uncomfortably in her hand. The sweat physically dripping down her forehead and onto the paper beneath her. Her throat swelling up.
(You don't know this!)
Emily rubbed her hand against her sweaty forehead, she had to write something, but what? She really didn't know.
(Just give up! You're going to fail!)
The demons at the back of Emily's mind were slowly getting louder, but Emily knew she had to her very best to block them out, she couldn't let them control her again. Not like last time.

Emily moved onto the next question of the exam paper, maybe she could work this one out, maybe this one would be easier.
If x is equal to y then what does w equal?
Nope, it was even harder. Emily's eyes widened, she almost let out a shriek of help, but quickly held it in.
(ha ha ha ha, you can't do it! You can't do it!)
Emily shut her eyes, trying to block them out, but to little avail. This was her exam, her future and she was letting them get in the way! Again.

She looked up at the time, the clock was just ticking away, time was slipping right out of her hands.
Tick tock, tick tock,
Emily took another deep breath, except this time it was very uneasy, almost staggered.
(Give up, Just give up!)
NO! She won't give up, she had to continue, she couldn't let them rule over her, not now, not again.

Emily turned to the next question, then the next, then the next, then the next. Nothing. Her mind was nothing, full of emptiness, hopelessness and despair.
They were right, she couldn't do it. No matter how hard she wanted to deny it, she just couldn't do it.
(We told you so, we're always right, and you are wrong!)
The voices now screaming inside her head. Emily put her head on the desk, her hands covering her trembling head.
(What are you still doing here?! RUN!)
Following the ghostly command, Emily ran out of the exam hall, letting her legs take over. Emily ran out of the hall and nearly out of the school before she forced herself to stop just outside the gates, gripping onto them as if they were her life boat. Her life boat to prevent her from drowning in her demons abyss.

(They're coming, they're coming!)
Emily looked out of the corner of her eye, a teacher was running towards her. Concern, yet anger was in their eyes. Panic was increasing but Emily still couldn't move, her legs had turned to stone. Emily's eyes were now blinded by tears.
“Emily, what's wrong!?” the teacher cried as she approached the frozen girl.
(LEAVE US ALONE!) The demons screamed, making Emily push the teacher. Hard.
“GO AWAY!” Emily cried, there was no point of going back there, there was no point of trying. It was all over for Emily.

The demons had won once more... Just like last time.
This is an assignment I had to do for my Creative Writing class during summer.

It's okay, I guess, but I thought I'd share it with you guys!

Anyway, hope you liked it :)

Interesting way of showing the frustrating voices the main character had to deal with.
